The objectives of the WP1 are to characterise the rock mass in terms of joints, fractures, discontinuities. In-situ Field Investigation will provide the input for the WP2. The in-situ field investigation will be carried out in Romania, Turkiye and Italy's selected testing sites to validate the project approach to different real case applications. The particular nature of the ornamental stone quarry requires, preferentially, non-destructive measuring systems of the rock mass to avoid further material degradation and waste production.

To generate a Point Cloud of the Digital Elevation Model from which to extract discontinuity parameters (dip, dip direction and persistence/ trace length) to derive a Discrete Fracture Network, which will be validated against field data; to develop a computer programme to generate stochastic DFNs.
The following methodology is proposed to derive the Discrete Fracture Network (DFN), which characterises each of the stones' deposits to generate a realistic geological model.
* SfM, TLS, UAV - LiDAR Scanning of the Rockmass Surface and Data Processing;
* Extraction of Discontinuity Sets – Dip, Dip Direction, Persistence;
* Derivation of DFN – Validation and Software development for DFN generation.
